Yahoo is entering in the internet video world and attempting to go face-to-face with the biggest internet video website, YouTube. Multiple reports are suggesting Yahoo will launch their new internet video website this summer. Their main focus will be to attract content creators through a bigger potential to earn greater revenue money. YouTube is the largest video sharing website attracting more than 1 billion active monthly users. Yahoo believes they can attract the producers and creators by offering a better split of advertising revenue than the current setup on YouTube.
Yahoo wants to make sure it is easy to embed videos across the web and be able to host clips on all the other Yahoo web properties like Tumblr. Tumblr was purchased by Yahoo last year for $1.1 billion. No need for exclusive content on Yahoo’s new video website they are welcoming people to upload to Yahoo and YouTube etc… Yahoo hopes users choose to post on their platform first before others.
Yahoo had their own video system a few years ago and it was shut down for an unknown reason. Interesting to see what they will call their new video website. With Yahoo making huge business acquisitions in the past year or so, it will definitely be interesting to see how they will be connecting. This will be a battle for Yahoo to become better than YouTube. What will Yahoo and CEO Marissa Mayer achieve from this new internet video website?
