Grammy Award Winning R&B Producer to Protest Power 99 FM

Philadelphia area, and Grammy Award winning producer, Carvin Haggins, is calling on all entertainers, elected officials, and concerned citizens to stand with him as he launches a protest in front of Clear Channel's station,WUSL Power 99 FM.

He is bringing up an old issue. Lyrical content. This is nothing new per se. It was back in the early 1990s when C. Delores Tucker launched a campaign against Death Row Records, and the cause de jour was the use of the word "Bitches". That seems tame by today's standards. What is different now, are the risque, sexually degrading, and overtly violent lyrics against women which are no longer relegated to listening in the privacy of one's home. They are going over the "free" air waves in major rotation, listened to, and considered the norm, especially by young impressionable (mostly African American) children, all in the name of sales. "You wouldn't hear this on Clear Channel's pop stations, said Haggins in his riveting video that blasts entertainers such as Beyonce. "so why is it allowed on the urban stations?" he continued.

Editorial note: BACKLINE MAGAZINE agrees with Haggins, and the 1st Amendment be damned. Music that glorifies and promotes everything from oral sex to date rape to murder are heard by our children all day...every day, and have no place on the "free" air waves or in a healthy society.

If you agree, and are in the Philadelphia area, join Carvin Saturday, June 7 at 11:00 A.M. in front of Clear Channel's WUSL Power 99 FM station, 111 Presidential Blvd., Bala Cynwd, PA. BACKLINE MAGAZINE will be there in support.
In the mean time, watch Haggins' video then make up your own mind.
